A Happy Collaboration

Starting with a blank wall for an art collector is like starting with a blank canvas for the artist. Anything goes, which can be too much. That is why I enjoy sharing my personal attention and expertise.
A friend told me that her boyfriend had been admiring paintings of mine that are hanging in her apartment. He had just moved into a new place in a hot neighborhood.
First, I ask about schedules. What would be the soonest opportunity for me to see the space? We all meet there to relax and discuss how to maximize the space and exchange ideas on a living environment.
The apartment is NYC cozy, not loft spacious, but the slamming courtyard entrance is famous in the area. The furniture is a tasteful mix of antiques and modern, which can be a blast when arranged just so. Often, the art will tie it all together. To create a spacious feeling I suggest cool, muted colors and a use of deep perspective in the picture plane.
BF comes to my studio during daylight hours to enjoy a cup of tea and an extensive art show. We put a few works aside that have elements he enjoys. Then he totally surprises me and pulls out a large oil from a stack that I would have skipped. It was love at first sight.
BF tells me, “I used to be in a choir, it’s as close to God as I’ll ever get.” Enough said.
We agree on a price. And for the other wall, I find it here in storage, is the perfect triptych. That one becomes a rental agreement. We are both delighted.
I offer my delivery service in my customized art vehicle, Van Go. And by that evening the work is hung by yours truly. I am smiling as I think back on this wonderful weekend.
