Welcome. Walk through the art show in the newly renovated lobby of the Flushing YMCA. I was delighted when they called me to curate. The event has a mystical quality because Flushing was where my parents started our large family sixty years ago. My dad brought his new bride from a suburb of Chicago back to NYC to the army housing. Having just dedicated years to help care for my parents, Irene and Arthur Strunsky, during thier long illnesses and final passing, I dedicate this exhibit;
All Kinds of Families” to their memory.

Here is what the Artists had to say (in no particular order):
“I love the challenge of Watercolor. I start with a very wet brush to paper. Sometimes the paint guides me. The painting evolves like a family.” Leah Pearson, Artist
“Preservation of the tribe requires protection. Protecting each other is the theme of my work on family.” Kelly Barndt, Artist
“The Family is the Spirit and the Spirit is the Family.” Luis Rojas, Artist
“Friends are the Family that you choose.” Anki King, Artist
“Families are those who love and nurture you.” Robert Grant, Artist
“Family is the nucleus of our society, including
those that you can relate to, even if you are not blood relatives.” Carmen Porfido, Artist
“The paintings reflect a feel good, Magical Family World.” Naomi Yoneda Wesler, Artist
“We are from the ocean. Now we have separated into different countries. But in the beginning we were the same family. Putting artists into the same place a kind of music starts; then there is order.” Miki Katagiri, Artist
